CHESAPEAKE — Chris Ball might teach Social Studies, but he could fill-in for the Science teacher as well.

After Saturday’s 51-43 win over the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians, Ball might have stumbled on the right formula for his Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ success.

“Our team chemistry was there today and it’s been missing the last couple of games. The girls answered the call today,” Ball said.

“Overall, the girls played hard. We’ve been off for 10 days so that was a concern of ours, but we answered those concerns early.”

Kimmie Bennett scored 10 of her points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 13-8 lead. The Lady Panthers built a 22-14 halftime cushion.

Sarah Mayo got 6 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake maintained its lead at 32-24.

Mayo scored 10 points in the fourth quarter including 8-of-11 from the foul line. The Lady Panthers converted 13-of-17 from the line in the quarter as the Lady Indians were forced to foul.

Whitney Bear and Jordan Arbaugh had 6 points each in the quarter for Valley.

“We won the game on the defensive end. Bennett held her own against Arbaugh who is a 1,000-point scorer and she got some backside help from Ruffner,” said Ball.

“(Bennett and Ruffner) handled the inside and allowed our guards to pressure their guards on the outside.”

Bennett had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ruffner racked up 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Mayo had 5 assists and 3 steals to go with her point total.

“In the second half we struggled in the half-court offense and Mayo was able to bail us out and draw some fouls and put the game away for us at the end,” said Ball.

Arbaugh finished with 13 points and Bear 10 to lead Valley (12-6).
