ALBANY — A little WD40 helps when things get a little rusty. Something else that helps is 42 combined points from Jalynn Bradburn and Kayla Fletcher.
Showing the effects of a long layoff, the South Point Lady Pointers got going and rolled past the Vinton County Lady Vikings 78-47 Wednesday in the Division II sectional tournament semifinals.
“We were a little rusty. We haven’t played for 10 days and we didn’t get to practice a few days,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams. “Our defense wasn’t as sharp, but I was pleased that we scored 78 points.”
Bradburn finished with 22 points and Fletcher scored 20. Tinesha Taylor added 12 points and Allison Mitchell 11.
South Point (17-2) will now play at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals at Alexander High School against the winner of Thursday’s game between Sheridan and Gallipolis.
Tori Dixon had 16 points, Allison Graves 12 and Caitlyn Owings 10 for Vinton County (10-11).
Ashley Goodall scored 7 points as South Point jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game.
But Vinton County called a timeout and went on an 11-4 run to tie the game at 13 to end the quarter.
But Fletcher scored 8 points and Bradburn added 5 more including a 3-pointer as the Lady Pointer pulled away to a 35-23 lead at the half.
Fletcher drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points and Bradburn also scored 8 points as South Point opened up a 59-34 lead.
Dixon had 9 of her points in the fourth quarter.
“Kayla did a nice job on Dixon. We took Kayla out in the fourth quarter and Dixon got most of her points,” said Adams.
