FRANKLIN FURNACE — Even the best-laid plans can go awry.

Green’s game plan worked for a while, but the Peebles Indians rallied in the second half and beat the upset-minded Bobcats 74-61 Monday.

“Our defensive strategy worked well the first half and they had trouble with our inside game,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton. “But they shot the ball well in the third quarter and we couldn’t slow them down.”

After falling behind 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, Trenton Otworth scored 9 points and Matt Ratcliff 8 in the second quarter as Green rallied to take a 32-30 halftime lead.

But Andy Countryman scored 7 points and the Indians hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter as they outscored Green 20-10 and grabbed a 50-42 lead.

Otworth and Ratcliff combined for 17 more points in the fourth quarter but Peebles outscored the Bobcats 24-19 to remain unbeaten.

Ratcliff scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (9-9) while Otworth scored 20 points.

“The last two games we’ve played Eastern (16-2) and Peebles and we’ve played pretty well. We’re starting to come together at the right time,” said Blanton.

The Bobcats play Sciotoville East at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Division IV sectional tournament at Lucasville Valley High School.

Green hosts Rock Hill at 1 p.m. Saturday in a regular season game.

Andrew Seaman scored 25 points and Blake Justice had 24 to pace Peebles (19-0). The duo combined for nine of the Indians’ 12 3-pointers.
