Waginger celebrates Senior Day in big way

CULLOWEE, N.C. — It was Senior Day, so senior point guard Brigham Waginger celebrated.

Waginger scored 15 points and tied a career high with seven steals in Western Carolina’s 78-70 win over the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The seven steals by Waginger makes him the nation’s leader in that category.

Waginger is the Catamount’s single-season and career leader in steals. He is third on the Southern Conference all-time record with 279, just 14 behind second place.

The Ironton native is trying to become the first player in conference history to lead the league in steals per game for three consecutive seasons.

Waginger broke his own school record of 81 steals in a single season. He now has 84 this season.

He is also No. 54 in the country in assists, two spots behind Ohio States’ Evan Turner.

Western Carolina is 21-10 on the season and 11-7 in the Southern Conference.
