FAYETTE TOWNSHIP — The State Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed one fatality as a result of a fire Monday night at a house at 432 Township Road 148 (Haines Branch), just off Buffalo Creek in Fayette Township.
The victim was an 80-year-old man, fire marshal’s office spokesman Shane Cartmill said Tuesday morning.
The man’s name was not released as of press time.
The two-story house caught fire at approximately 9 p.m. Cartmill said the fire originated in the living room and there does not appear to be any criminal intent connected to the fire.
“Because of the amount of damage, investigators were unable to determine an exact cause,” Cartmill said. “Investigators did not find any smoke detectors, and witnesses and firefighters did not hear any detectors alerting.”
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington-Fayette Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
