FLATWOODS, Ky. — Z Winter Guard of Flatwoods, Ky., finished with a first place win at the Dayton Power Regional competition of Winter Guard International Feb. 27.

Z Winter Guard competed in the Independent Regional “A” Class and took top score in the caption.

Z Winter Guard also took home a third place win at the Nashville Regional of WGI earlier in February in Independent Regional “A” competition.

Winter guard, known as “The Sport of the Arts,” is a competitive youth activity which combines a choreographed dance routine incorporating colorful silks (flags), performance rifles and sabers.

Z Winter Guard is a program for Tri-State youth, ages 12 to 22 and is part of the Rivertown Performing Arts League, Inc.

Rivertown was established in 2006 as a community-based, non-profit organization to provide a positive, inclusive educational experience in winter guard and the performing arts for area teens.

Z Winter Guard is a member of the Ohio Indoor Performance Association and Winter Guard International. Bill Burroway is the director of Z Winter Guard.
