RACELAND, Ky. — Performers from the Lawrence County area will lend their talents for an evening of winter guard and dance that will focus on domestic violence prevention.

Members of South Point High School Winter Guard and the Chesapeake High School Colorguard will perform at the 4th Annual Rivertown Review.

The Review will be held Friday at Raceland-Worthington (Ky.) High School at 7 p.m. Nine ensembles will be joined by several solo and duet performers on the program.

The event is sponsored by Rivertown Performing Arts League, Inc. and Z Winter Guard of Flatwoods, Ky. Performers and attendees are being asked to bring personal care products, such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and other items for a regional domestic violence shelter.

“Safe Harbor serves more than 500 adults and children who’re leaving violent domestic situations each year,” said Bill Burroway, Rivertown’s president. “We wanted to set this evening aside to collect items for Safe Harbor in memory of our volunteer guard mom, who was killed by an act of domestic violence last year,” he stated.

Parent Christy Grice was killed in May 2009 by her ex-husband at her home in Wheelersburg.

She had served as a beloved parent volunteer in the Rivertown programs before her death and was a pharmacist at an Ashland hospital.

Her daughter, Stephanie Davis, a freshman at Marshall University, is a member of Z Winter Guard’s 2010 cast.

In addition to Chesapeake and South Point, groups performing at the Rivertown Review are: Z Winter Guard (Flatwoods, Ky.); Raceland High School Winterguard (Raceland, Ky.); Spring Valley Winter Guard (Huntington, W.Va.); Vertigo Winterguard (Huntington, W.Va.); River Cities Dance Company (Greenup, Ky.); and the Greenup County High School Dance Team (Lloyd, Ky.).

Admission to the Rivertown Review is $5. Children age six and younger are admitted at no cost. Concessions will be offered by the Raceland Ram Band Boosters.
