SSU’s Lewis named scholar-athlete
PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State guard Derek Lewis has developed a good habit.
Lewis, a 5-foot-7 guard for the Golden Bears, has been named an NAIA Scholar Athlete for the second consecutive season. The Ironton native and former Green Bobcats’ standout has accumulated a 3.96 grade point average during his four-year career. He is a Game and Simulation Development major.
To be eligible as an NAIA scholar-athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
Lewis is among just 94 NAIA Division II men’s basketball players to receive this honor.
Derek is the son of Susan Kellogg and Kevin Lewis.
