There weren’t any fireworks to open the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ new baseball field, so they made their own.

Ironton unleashed 13 hits including five doubles as they outscored the South Point Pointers 13-7 in Tuesday’s season opener and the first game at the new baseball field.

“We hit the ball well up and down the lineup,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “We let things get a little sloppy at the end, but we played pretty well for the first time out.”

Ironton collected 13 hits to back the complete game pitching of Ethan Preston.

Josh Pancake banged out two doubles, Howie Lucas went 3-3 and Darren Dalton 3-4 to lead Ironton. “Tractor” Taylor Barker was 2-3 with a double and Jonathan Williams also had a double.

Preston gave up 14 hits but they were concentrated in the third and sixth innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

Kyle Dickess went 3-3 to lead the Pointers. Steven McClure and Jesse Lien were 2-4.

Pancake doubled home a run in a two-run first inning and Ironton scored four times in the second inning on two hits, two walks and an error to make it 6-0.

Doubles by Dickess and Adkins keyed a four-run third inning by the Pointers, but Ironton answered with five runs in the fourth inning. Dalton, Barker, Pancake and Williams all smacked doubles in the uprising.

Ironton hosts Coal Grove at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
