AID — If Erica Corn was this good in her first game, imagine how good she could be by the end of the season.

In her first pitching outing of the season, Corn fired a no-hitter as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings beat the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 8-0 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“She threw the ball well. She kept the hitters off-balance with her change-up. It was a good first outing for her,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Corn racked up 12 strikeouts and walked two in pitching her masterpiece. She also went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double.

Nikki Nance was 4-4 with two doubles as Symmes Valley had 11 hits.

The Lady Vikings scored three runs in each of the first two innings.

In the first, Corn doubled and Nance singled her home. Brooke Skinner walked, the runners moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Brittany Foster’s base hit.

Beanna Foster reached on an error and Nance singled to start the second. After a fielder’s choice, Kayla Ross doubled home both runners and she scored when Brittany Foster was safe on an error.

A single by Ada Humphrey, a wild pitch and Corn’s base hit pushed across a run in the third inning.

The Lady Vikings got their final run in the fifth inning when Brittany Foster walked, Chelsea Keathley doubled and Humphrey hit into a force play.

Symmes Valley (1-1, 1-0) plays at Ashland, Ky., Friday and Spring Valley, W.Va., on Saturday.
