WAYNE, W.Va. — Chad Fisher was down and he stayed down. As a result, the Fairland Dragons were up on the Wayne Pioneers.
Fisher enduced Wayne batters to hit ground outs as he fired a one-hitter and pitched a shutout to beat the Pioneers 3-0 Wednesday.
“He kept the ball down and made them hit it on the ground and we played defense behind him,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward.
“He was on. He only threw 80 pitches. Chad gave a great effort.”
Fisher struck out six and walked two in going the distance. The only hit was a bloop single to right field in the fifth inning by Drew Riley.
Fairland (2-0) scored all its runs in the third inning.
Javier Rowe and Jon Baise walked to start the rally. Fisher singled home Rowe and Matt Campbell followed with a two-run single.
The Dragons hosts Huntington (W.Va.) High on Thursday.
