Going deep isn’t just a baseball term.

The South Point Lady Pointers used their team depth to outpoint the Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ team depth and win the Ironton Invitational track meet Thursday.

South Point had 85.5 points to finish 12 points ahead of Coal Grove. Ironton was third with 64 and Chesapeake had 18.

“It just came down to depth,” said Ironton coach Tim Thomas. “South Point and Coal Grove both have good teams and they had a lot more depth. They both did a nice job.”

Kayla Fletcher won the long jump at 15-2 and ran a 13.2 to place first in the 100-meter dash to lead the Lady Pointers. She also ran legs on the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.

Teammate Jalynn Bradburn was first in the high jump as she cleared 4-10.

The Lady Pointers won the three of the four relays.

Ironton’s Ariel Schweickart, Kaylie Sturgill, Shannon Walker and Colleen Walker combined to win the 4×800 relay at 11:36.

Taylor Hacker was a double winner. She won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Morgan Weisgarber ran a 28.6 to win the 200, Schweickart’s 2:44 won the 800 meters and Hannah Cronacher was first in the pole vault.

Coal Grove was led by Paige McKnight who scooted her way to wins in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

The Lady Hornets’ Chelsea Delong won the discus (106-8) and Amanda Collins was first in the 400-meter dash.

Chesapeake’s Beth McWhorter threw 33-11.5 to win the shot put by one-inch over Ironton’s Lorna Ceaser.

The Ironton boys’ invitational will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.
