Variety key for Lady Vikings winning

AID — Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep must be teaching his team manners. They keep taking turns.

A different group of hitters have been stepping up each game including a 9-2 win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans Tuesday in the Southern Ohio Conference.

“Everyday it’s somebody else. One day it’s the top of the order, the next day it’s the bottom of the order,” said Estep.

“We’re hitting one through nine now and we’re getting good pitching and playing good defense.”

The same group of batters produced a pair of 4-run innings.

Symmes Valley jumped in front 4-0 in the second inning.

Chelsea Wall and Jessie Morris singled, Brittany Foster put down a bunt and a throwing error on the play scored a run. Chelsea Keathley singled for two runs and when the return throw from the outfield got loose the final run scored.

Notre Dame cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Vikings scored four more in the bottom of the inning.

Wall and Morris singled and Foster was safe on an error as Wall scored. Keathley hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored and two more runs came home when Nance singled.

The final run scored in the sixth when Morris was safe on an error, moved to third base on a wild pitch and stolen base, then scored on a hit by Foster.

Nance was 2-4 while Skinner, Wall and Morris were all 2-4 as the Lady Vikings had 10 hits.

Symmes Valley plays at Green Wednesday in a league game.
