Chapman pitches Lady Panthers past Gallipolis

CHESAPEAKE — It seems when Allison Chapman gets in a pitcher’s duel, she has a little more ammunition.

Chapman struck out 10 and did not walk a batter as she fired a 3-hitter to lead the Chesapeake Lady Panthers to a 3-0 win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels Tuesday.

“She threw well,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice. “They had a couple of opportunities to score and Alli did a good job getting out of it.”

Heather Ward pitched well in defeat. She struck out 11, gave up eight hits and did not walk a batter for Gallipolis (9-3).

Chesapeake got the only run it needed in the first inning.

Chapman — who went 3-3 at the plate — led off with a base hit and went to second on an outfield error. Casey Kirk put down a bunt and a throwing error on the play allowed Chapman to score.

The Lady Panthers added two insurance runs in the fourth inning when Courtney Heffner had a leadoff single and Myky Harmon unloaded a two-run homer.

Chesapeake (8-4) hosts Coal Grove Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
