Fighting Tigers’ tennis drops pair of matches

The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ tennis team dropped a pair of SEOAL matches Saturday, losing 4-1 to Portsmouth and 5-0 to Marietta.

Aaron Pettiford beat Portsmouth’s Tanner Hatcher 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 3-0 (retired) for Ironton’s only win on the day.

Andrew Hicks fell 0-6, 1-6 to John Khoury and Brennan Banks dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 decision to Trevor Brown.

In doubles play, Schylar Fields and Jordan Sheridan lost to Cody Minton and Mitch Gower 0-6, 2-6 while Devin Karnes and Nathan Hale fell to James Shogort and Larson Marquardt 2-6, 3-6.

Against Marietta, Hicks lost to Alex Stern 1-6, 4-6 in No. 1 singles play. Pettiford was beaten 0-6, 0-6 by Wes Cline and Banks dropped his match to Cody Kriechbaum by identical 0-6 scores as well.

Ryan Sias and Karnes lost to Cody Morrow and Zach Mullin 0-6, 0-6 in No. 1 doubles play while Fields and Sheridan were beaten 4-6, 4-6 by Will O’Connor and Justin Newlen.

In an exhibition match, Kylie Thomas and Hale lost to Gilkeson and Edgar 5-8.

The Fighting Tigers are now 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
