Scioto Choir to offer concert
IRONTON — Scioto County Choir will be appear in concert at First United Methodist Church at Ironton at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 24.
There will be a second concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Cornerstone Methodist Church in Portsmouth. For more information, contact the church office at 740-532-1196.
TLC to have special speaker
PROCTORVILLE — The TLC organization will have its April meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ohio University Proctorville Center. Guest speaker will be Robin Howell of Huntington, W.Va., who has been involved with beautification projects in Huntington.
TLC will also be involved in the May 1 area cleanup.
OLBH to reward volunteers during National Volunteer Week
RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) is celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 18-24) by hosting an appreciation luncheon for its volunteers Thursday at the Bellefonte Country Club.
OLBH offers many opportunities for community members to volunteer in assisting the hospital in fulfilling its ministry of healing.
OLBH volunteers contributed more than 18,000 hours during the past year in a variety of hospital area’s including the gift shop, outpatient surgery waiting area, information desk, surgery and ICU waiting areas, couriers and auxiliary fundraising.
“The volunteers are an important part of the day-to-day activities and compliment the services provided by OLBH employees,” Luann Serey, OLBH Community Services director, said. Volunteers will be awarded pins recognizing their total hours of volunteer time at OLBH during the luncheon.

See ‘The Blind Side’ Sunday
ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library will host a free showing of the Oscar-winning film, “The Blind Side,” on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Main Branch.
The movie, rated PG-13, tells the story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman (Sandra Bullock) and her family.
Bullock won a Best Actress Academy Award for her role. The film also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Admission is free and some refreshments are provided. Additional snacks can be purchased.
Other upcoming movies include: “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” on April 21 at Summit; and “It’s Complicated” (Girls’ Night Out) on April 28 at Main.
Outside groups can host movie showings at either the Main or Summit branches, using the library’s license.

Free bicycle safety camp offered April 27
RUSSELL, Ky. — May is National Bicycle Safety Month. Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH), in conjunction with Tri-State Pediatrics and Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte, will celebrate in advance by hosting the 12th annual OLBH Bicycle Safety Camp Tuesday, April 27 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Registration and minor bike repair will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The camp for children ages 5-12 takes place at the Community Presbyterian Church, located at 605 Bellefonte Princess Road.
The Ashland Cycling Enthusiasts will provide the minor bike repairs, helmet fitting and safety education sessions. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments provided.
Prizes include new bikes. Each participant is asked to bring a bike and any safety equipment.
