COLUMBUS — Defensive tackle John Simon recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown Saturday as he led a dominating defensive effort in Ohio State’s jersey scrimmage at Ohio Stadium.

Simon had two sacks for 25 yards lost and a batted down pass as the defense beat the offense 78-24 and earned the right to wear the scarlet jerseys in practices.

Head coach Jim Tressel says it’s probably the most lopsided score in the jersey scrimmage that he’s seen.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor showed no effects from arthroscopic surgery in February to repair a torn ligament in his left knee but did wear a black “no-hit” jersey. He was 5 of 16 passing for 49 yards, was sacked four times and lost a fumble.

Jaamal Berry rushed 17 times for 76 yards.

Ohio State opens the regular season Thursday, Sept. 2, against Marshall.
