CHESAPEAKE — On a day of missed opportunities, Sidney Boyle was on target.
Boyle had the game-winning RBI and played well defensively as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers edged the Rock Hill Redwomen 2-1 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
The Lady Panthers left 11 runners on base.
“Sidney had a nice game. She made two nice defensive plays and had a big hit,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
“We had runners on base and couldn’t get the big hit. It was just another tight conference game.”
Chesapeake went out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Allison Chapman singled and went to third base on an outfield error. She scored on a ground out to shortstop by Sarah Mayo.
Rock Hill (11-7, 4-3) tied the game in the fourth on a two-out walk to Chelsea Harper, a stolen base and an error on Morgan Schug’s ground ball.
The Lady Panthers took the lead with a run in the fifth inning when Mayo doubled and scored on Boyle’s single.
Boyle also made a big defensive play in the sixth inning to prevent Rock Hill from tying the game.
Courtney Duncan led off the sixth inning with a triple, but Boyle fielded a bunt attempt, tagged the batter out and threw behind the runner trying to get back to third base and completed the double play.
Chapman pitched a 2-hitter to get the win. She struck out 11 and walked three.
Chesapeake (11-6, 5-0) visits South Point Friday.
