“We are all so proud of how she’s stepped into the starting pitching role this season as a sophomore. She’s done a great job for us,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tara Layne.

“It was a solid win. Great pitching, hitting and defense combined together.”

South Point took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Amy Lien doubled and scored when Emily Button grounded out. Katelynn Leonard reached on an error, Courtney Koukos singled and both scored when Ashley Goodall was safe on a throwing error.

Koukos and Tanner Miller singled to start the third and scored on passed balls. Goodall walked and scored on Murnahan’s double.

South Point ended the game with three runs in the fifth inning.

Koukos was safe on an error, stole second and scored on Miller’s double. Ashley Smith tripled for a run and scored on an errant relay throw to the pitcher.

“Koukos and Milelr stepped up huge tonight and Smith is rally hitting the ball hard,” said Layne.

South Point (7-6, 3-3) hosts Chesapeake Friday.
