PEDRO — United States Forest Service law enforcement and investigations officials are investigating incidents in which someone impersonated a federal officer and are asking people who may have seen the phony officer to come forward.

Bill Mickle, USFS special agent, said there were several incidents during which the person wore a USFS uniform and approached people on and off federal property in the Ironton-Pedro area from summer 2009 to the present.

“We know who he is but we’re looking for additional witnesses and we want to know of additional circumstances, in case other people saw him or interacted with him,” Mickle said.

Authorities said the suspect may have been operating a dark colored pick-up truck during some of these incidents.

Mickle said he could not provide more details about the case at this time.

People who had contact with or who witnessed the suspect are asked to contact USFS law enforcement immediately at (740) 534-6543.
