CHESAPEAKE — Lately, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ practices have focused on hitting. It’s worked for Myky Harmon.

Harmon had two hits including the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning as Chesapeake edged the Fairland Lady Dragons 5-4 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We’ve spent a lot of time on hitting. Now we’re trying to put it to use,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Harmon’s hit enabled pitcher Allison Chapman to get the win. Chapman — who went 3-4 at the plate — gave up seven hits, struck out eight and walked only two.

“Allison threw pretty well. Late in the game her change was working really well,” said Rice.

Chesapeake got a run in the first inning when Chapman singled, stole second base, took third on a ground out and came home on Sarah Mayo’s sacrifice fly.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second inning.

Courtney Heffner reached on an error, Harmon singled and Caitlin Heffner hit into a force play. Sarah Rice then had a clutch two-out RBI single and Heffner scored on an error.

The Lady Panthers added a run in the third when Casey Kirk reached second on an error and scored on a hit by Sidney Boyle.

Fairland got two runs in the fifth. Chloe Stanley singled, Keri Napier reached on an error, and Haley Woodall and Jaimie Phillips each had two-out singles.

The Lady Dragons tied the game in the seventh.

Chelsea Stanley walked, Woodall hit into a fielder’s choice, Phillips singled and Kerin Pinkerman had a 2-run single.

Mayo reached on an error to start the winning rally in the eighth and took second on an overthrow. She stole third base and Fairland walked two intentionally to load the bases.

Harmon then delivered a base hit to left and Mayo scored.

Sashe Burcham suffered the tough loss for Fairland. She gave up seven hits, fanned four and walked two.
