Marshall prepares for 173rd graduation

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Marshall University’s 2010 graduation is fast approaching.

Marshall says its 173rd commencement is set for May 8. About 700 graduates are expected to participate in ceremonies at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington.

Overall, Marshall says nearly 1,400 students will graduate. That includes 818 undergraduates and 468 graduate students, as well as 62 from the School of Medicine and 41 who will receive associate degrees.

ACTC offers summer classes

ASHLAND, Ky. — Now is the time to apply for summer and fall classes at Ashland Community and Technical College. Summer Session I is May 24 to June 25, and Summer Session II is June 28 to July 30.

Summer Sessions offer advantages to new and continuing students alike. New students can get a head start on fall, continuing students can complete their college program in a shorter time, and working adults can take classes for job advancement.

Most summer classes are for three credits, and many are offered in the general education subjects that are required for associate and bachelor degrees.

This summer, classes will be offered at the new Technology Drive Campus Phase II expansion as well as the College Drive and Roberts Drive Campuses.

Summer I Registration is at the College Drive Campus May 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration at the Roberts Drive and Technology Drive campuses by appointment with the instructor. Students can register for Summer I, Summer II and fall semester classes at the same time.

Mother, daughter movie night set

ASHLAND, Ky. — A special evening for mothers and daughters is planned at Boyd County Public Library on Friday, May 7.

Girls can treat their mom (or grandma or favorite aunt) to a night out for Mother’s Day. The free evening will include pizza, snacks and showing of the 2002 movie, “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.”

The program takes place after the library closes for the day, at 6 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

Boyd and dads will get their chance at a similar program in June.
