Lady Vikings sweep Western to set up SOC showdown Monday

AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings found two was better than one.

The Lady Vikings did double duty and swept a doubleheader from the Western Lady Indians Friday 12-2 and 9-0 in a pair of five-inning Southern Ohio Conference games.

“It was good to keep winning and keep pace in the league,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (18-3, 10-1 SOC) hosted New Boston in a doubleheader Saturday and hosts Portsmouth Clay Monday in what should be a showdown for first place.

The Lady Vikings erupted for nine runs in the first inning and coasted to the win.

Symmes Valley used two-run singles by Brooke Skinner and Nikki Nance, a two-run triple by Erica Corn and a two-run double by Ada Humphrey in the first inning uprising.

The Lady Vikings came back with three runs in the third inning to lead 12-1.

Kayla Ross, Chelsea Keathley and Humphrey all walked to load the bases. Morris hit a sacrifice fly and Skinner drove in two more runs with a base hit.

Skinner was 3-3 with four RBIs.

In the second game, four errors in the third and three more in the fourth inning helped Symmes Valley score its runs. Western also walked three batters in the third inning.

Morris had both hits for the Lady Vikings in the second game. She had a two-run double in the third and another two-run double in the fourth.
