PROCTORVILLE — There’s nothing wrong with the South Point Lady Pointers. That clicking sound is intentional.

The Lady Pointers continued to click as they beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 5-3 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point is now 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the OVC including four straight conference wins.

“We’re finally starting to click. Out of all of our starters, I only have two girls that are playing this year where they played last year,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tara Layne.

“Most of the girls were thrown into positions that were new to them this year. I think it’s just taken them time to adjust, but it feels like it’s all clicking finally.”

Fairland coach Joe Auxier said his team’s five errors were too much to overcome.

“The errors killed us,” said Auxier.

South Point took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with two unearned runs.

Katelyn Leonard reached on a two-out error, Courtney Koukos doubled in a run and Tanner Miller was safe on an error to score a run.

Fairland tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Jaimie Phillips was hit by a pitch, stole second base, moved up when Keri Pinkerman reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a passed ball. Sashe Burcham grounded out as Pinkerman came home.

South Point took the lead for good with two runs in the second.

Ashley Goodall singled and Brianna Whaley had an RBI double. Emily Button reached on an outfield error to score Whaley.

The game remained 4-2 until each team scored a run in the seventh.

Button was safe on an error, was sacrificed to second by Leonard, took third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out.

In the bottom of the inning, Haley Woodall singled, stole second and scored on Pinkerman’s base hit.

Murnahan got the win as she struck out seven and walked two. Burcham took the loss as she struck out seven and walked none.
