PROCTORVILLE — It wasn’t easy for Dalton Froehlich to pick a sport, so he just picked them all.

The Fairland Dragons’ versatile senior has been a member of the cross country, basketball, baseball, and golf teams during his high school career.

“I like to try it all,” said Froehlich.

But his first love is golf and that will be the sport he will continue with after signing a letter-of-intent with Capital University.

Froehlich led the Fairland golf team in every tournament last season and was third in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament to earn all-league honors.

He finished second in the sectional tournament and qualified individually for the district match where he was tied for the lead after the first round and finished tied for seventh.

“Coach (Jeff) Parker at Capital said he was looking for character and work ethic,” said Froehlich. “I have a lot to improve on. I’ll use their indoor practice facility. I love playing golf. I don’t consider it work.”

Froehlich’s father got him playing golf at the age of seven and he fell in love with the sport.

Although he loves golf, he said he wished he could have tried football but an eye injury in 2004 prevented him from playing sports and now he wears a contact lens permanently in the eye.

“I had to get over it. I had to change. I always wanted to play football but if I could pick any sport it would be golf,” said Froehlich.

“When I’m 80, I still want to be out there hitting the sticks.”

Dalton — who is president of the student body — received a Presidential Scholarship and plans to major in nursing and focus on anesthesiology. Capital is considered one of the top nursing schools in the country.

Dalton’s twin brother Logan has signed to pole vault at Capital.
