PEDRO — Coach Mary Harper didn’t know what to expect from her team before the season since the Rock Hill Redwomen didn’t have a senior on the roster.

The lack of experience and veterans didn’t stop the Redwomen who clinched a tie for second place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 5-3 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons Tuesday.

“That was a big win for us. That leaves us tied for second place. That’s a nice accomplishment for a young team,” said Harper.

Rock Hill is now 14-10 overall and finished 6-4 in the OVC along with South Point. Fairland is 4-4 in the league with two games remaining against River Valley.

Each team got a run in the second inning.

Morgan Damron tripled and Dani Crabtree grounded out as Rock Hill tied the game.

Rock Hill took the lead with a run in the third when Nicole Stamper reached on an error and scored on a hit by Duncan.

Rock Hill took a 3-1 lead in the fourth.

Morgan Schug singled and courtesy runner Brooke Knipp went to second on a wild pitch. Megan Russell was safe on an error as Knipp scored.

Fairland tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Amber Bias reached on an error and scored on Chloe Stanley’s double. Keri Napier singled to put runners on the corners. Sasha Burcham and Phillips then walked to force in a run.

But the Redwomen came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Schug got the win as she gave up five hits, struck out five and walked two. Burcham took the loss, also allowing five hits while striking out seven with no walks.
