Vera Eileen Billing, 84, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at a local health care center.
The Ironton native was born May 23, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Dan and Clarice E. Hall Rapp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Billing, who passed away March 13, 1998.
Mrs. Billing attended Ironton City Schools but was a 1942 graduate of Jacksontown High School. She was also a graduate from Newark School of Nursing and attended Western Reserve University. She was a registered nurse for Lawrence County General Hospital and Armco Steel. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, helped organize District 19 Ohio State Nurses Association, the Armco Girls Club and Armco Veterans Girls Club.
Mrs. Billing also was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Bill Rapp; and a sister, Luella Shoemaker.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Kristina Billing of Ironton; a grandson, Thomas Kendall Billing of Ironton; a brother, Wilbur Rapp of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Sally Schisler and the Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family asks that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton.
