Smoking cessation starts May 17

RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) invites anyone wishing to stop smoking to join its free smoking cessation program. The next session begins Monday, May 17, with classes meeting Mondays at 6 p.m. at the OLBH Human Motion Vitality Center conference room.

The 12-week program utilizes the proven Cooper-Clayton method to help participants become non-smokers. Sessions are free except for the cost of nicotine replacement or Zyban. Family, friends or other members of an individual’s support system are welcome to attend.

“It often takes more than willpower to become a nonsmoker,” Jean Bowling, R.N., said. “The best way to stop smoking is through a combination of counseling, support and nicotine replacement therapy.”

Ironton in Bloom plant sale Saturday

IRONTON — Ironton in Bloom is having its third annual plant sale Saturday morning at Depot Square.  

Although the sale doesn’t officially start until 10 a.m., early risers are welcome to come and see what is available and shop.

The sale will continue until 2 p.m.  All of the proceeds go to beautify Ironton.  

At 7 a.m., IIB volunteers will hang the poleplanters and baskets throughout the city.  

Volunteers are needed to hang the two sections of the pole planter on the ornamental light poles and tie them together.

 IIB members hope to have several teams of three to complete this job.  

The poleplanters will be placed at the base of the pole by MawMaw’s Nursery employees and volunteers will connect each one to the flange and tie it off.  

A team of three needs a ladder and something to cut the ties.  Extra ties and gloves will be appreciated.

‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ showing at the Paramount

Ohio author to sign books at BCPL

Fostoria Ohio author Naomi Chapman will be at the Boyd County Public Library in Ashland, Ky. on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. to talk about her books. 

She will also have copies of her books on hand to sign.

Chapman has five books published.  “allet of Death,” “The Digby Lake Killer,” “Secret Past,” “Bathroom Strangler” and her newest title is “Criminal Company.”  All five books are thrillers.

“Criminal Company” is about Holly Andrews gets a job working for the Griffins she has no idea what she is in for. There are so many secrets and lies.

After meeting Eli Griffin, the son, she thinks he is the sexiest man alive. 

She has no idea what kind of illegal activities he is involved with.  Then there is Natalie Griffin who only cares about money and what she can get.

She gets a man named Wes to help steal money from her parents, but Eli finds out.

Just as Eli and his friends are about to kill her, Wes comes in with a gun pointed at Holly’s head.
