COAL GROVE — Following a successful Opening Night last Friday that saw Nick Bocook, Vince Conrad, Bruce Gray, and Tony Sites take the big wins, the Rocky Top Raceway is preparing for it’s largest event of the 2010 season Friday.

On the card this week will be the $5,000 to win “Les Boggs 50” for the Late Model division. With an overall purse of $17,100 for the 50-lap feature, this will be the highest paying unsanctioned race in track history.

Over the past two seasons, drivers from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Wisconsin have made their way to RTR for the track’s $5,000 to win specials.

Several of the top drivers in the sport of Dirt Late Model racing have taken wins in RTR $5,000 to win specials. In 2007, one of the nations most recognized drivers and former World of Outlaws champion Steve Francis took the checkered flag in the Engines Inc. 50.

Former World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Eddie Carrier Jr. took $5,000 wins in the 2008 and 2009 Engines Inc. 50. Cross Lanes, W.Va., driver Tim Dohm and Wheelersburg, Ohio driver R. J. Conley, both well accomplished racers, have also won $5,000 specials at RTR.

In addition to the “Les Boggs 50” Late Model special, fans will also get to see the $1,000 to win “Les Boggs 30” for the AMRA Modified division. That will be the second largest AMRA Modified event at RTR in 2010. Bombers and Mod Lites will also be on the racing card Friday running for regular purses.

In celebration of Mothers’ Day, Racers in Christ will be teaming with RTR to offer a special promotion for all mothers Friday. The first 150 mothers through the gate will receive a free rose courtesy of Racers in Christ, Country Gardens, Pro Star Designs, and Southern Ohio Sports Photos.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. with Hot Laps starting at 7:30. General admission is $20 with kids (7-12) general admission $5, and kids six and under are free. Pit passes are $32. RTR offers grandstand seating along with plenty of areas for people to bring lawnchairs.
