GAHANNA — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings picked a bad time not to miss the right time.

The Lady Vikings failed to hit in the clutch in a 10-4 loss to Columbus Bishop Hartley Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader.

Symmes Valley out-hit Hartley 10-9 and left 15 runners stranded.

“We couldn’t get a timely hit. We had plenty of opportunities,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We out-hit them, but they did what we needed to do.”

Hartley went up 3-0 in the first inning and led d6-0 in the top of the third before the Lady Vikings got three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jessie Morris walked and Nikki Nance hit into a fielder’s choice with both runners reaching safely. Brooke Skinner doubled both runners home and then she scored on a hit by Kayla Ross.

Hartley got two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to lead 10-3. Symmes Valley got a run in the bottom of the seventh when Brittany Foster doubled and Morris reached on an error.

Foster finished the game 3-4 and Adam Humphey was 2-3.

Symmes Valley also lost the first game 8-0 as they committed seven errors that led to six unearned runs.

Brooke Skinner had a fourth inning triple for the Lady Vikings’ only hit.

Symmes Valley hosts Portsmouth Clay Tuesday in a showdown for first place in the Southern Ohio Conference.
