BRADRICK — The Ohio State Fire Marshal is still investigating a February fire that took the life of a child.

The residential fire occurred in the Bradrick area of Chesapeake Feb. 10 and claimed the life of 10-year-old Johnathan Fralic. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Shane Cartmill, a spokesman for the fire marshal, said the agency is awaiting test results on evidence from an independent lab.

The agency also plans to continue interviews related to the case, Cartmill said.

The fire marshal’s office is solely in charge of the investigation.

“At this point, it’s just us,” Cartmill said. “It’s still a very active investigation.”

Cartmill said he did not know when the investigation might be completed.

“There is no time frame for these types of cases — it just takes time,” he said. “Investigators want to ensure they’ve looked at every possibility and extensively examined all facets of the fire.”
