Local resident graduates from leadership academy

SOUTH POINT — Mary Callicoat, of South Point, recently completed the Leadership Academy offered by Virtual Community School of Ohio (VCS Ohio). The inaugural class was honored at a ceremony on May 6 at the Marriott Northwest in Dublin, Ohio. Retired Army Lt. Col. John Shaw was the keynote speaker.

The Leadership Academy consisted of seven parts focusing on various aspects of leadership. Topics included: The Critical Factors of Leadership; Understanding Effective Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives; and Effective Meetings.

The academy was created and led by Mr. James McCord, superintendent of VCS Ohio to help develop individual skills and identify future leaders for VCS Ohio.

“Leadership is a unique skill which elevates others’ performance above their perceived capability. All of the graduates have gained strengths which will help them throughout their careers and personal endeavors,” stated James McCord.
