OAK HILL — Nothing to it.

Ironton freshman Hannah Cronacher wasn’t phased by her first district track meet. The rookie not only won her event, but she had personal-best height of 8-feet in the pole vault Monday in the first of three days of the Div. III meet.

“That’s pretty impressive for a freshman to not only place but win her event and she had her best performance of the year. I’m very proud of her,” said Lady Tigers’ coach Tim Thomas.

The day was marked by preliminary preliminaries. A second day of preliminaries is needed in the girls’ meet because the state decided to combine the two Southeast district meets creating a 33-team field.

As a result of the merger, only four contestants will qualify for the regional meet from the Southeast instead of the usual eight.

Cronacher — daughter of boys’ coach Greg Cronacher — and Casey Hendershot of Belpre both cleared 8-feet, but Cronacher had fewer misses during the competition.

Ironton had one other qualifier as senior Lorna Ceaser finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 35-3.5. The top four finishers advance to the regional meet next week at Lancaster.

Coal Grove’s Chelsea Delong and Doni Winters placed in the shot put. Delong was sixth with a throw of 33-3 while Winters was seventh at 32-5.5.

The Lady Hornets also had a pair place in the pole vault with Ashley Goad finished sixth and Shenna Littlejohn seventh. Both cleared 6-feet.

The boys’ and girls’ Div. II district meet will be held Tuesday and Saturday at Oak Hill. The girls’ and boys’ Div. III meet will continue Wednesday and Saturday.
