John Paul “Jocko” Vaughn, 76, of Ironton, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his residence.
The Ironton native was born Feb. 9, 1934, the son of the late A.J.and Vurlah Bester Vaughn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joann Hixon Vaughn, who died Oct. 6, 2007.
He was a graduate of Ironton High School and was a U.S. National Guard veteran. He retired in 1992 after 40 years as a boiler engineer for Armco Steel and he was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sons, John Paul Vaughn, Jr. and David Vaughn.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Vaughn of Ironton; a daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Jerry Mayer of Russell, Ky.; a sister, Sandra Vickers of Ironton; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Debbie Hixon officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
