MINFORD — The idea of tournament play is to win and move on.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings have the same idea.

Despite six errors, the Lady Vikings still got past the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 5-3 Tuesday in the Division IV district semifinals.

“We didn’t play well, but it’s a win and it goes in the win column and we’re going to play again on Saturday,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

The Lady Vikings will play again at 1 p.m. Saturday against South Webster in the district finals.

The errors led to all three runs being unearned and were the only real blemish on a strong pitching performance by Erica Corn who allowed just two hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Symmes Valley (22-5) had seven hits with Kayla Ross and Nikki Nance each going 2-3.

“We hit the ball, but we hit it right at them,” said Estep.

The game was scoreless until the Lady Vikings got four runs in the third inning.

Chelsea Keathley walked but Jessie Morris hit into a force play. Nance singled and Brooke Skinner walked to load the bases and Chelsea Wall had a two-run single.

An out later, Ross singled home a run and Wall scored on a throwing error from the outfield on the play.

The Lady Vikings added an insurance run in the fourth inning when Nance reached on a two-out error, stole second base and scored on a hit by Skinner.

In the sixth inning the first four East batters reached on errors as the Lady Titans scored three runs without the aid of a hit. There was also one walk.
