“(Murnahan’s) pitches are really coming around. She’s moving the ball well and, most importantly, she knows she has a solid defense behind her,” said South Point coach Tara Layne.

South Point (15-10) faces Adena at 1 p.m. Saturday in the district finals at Lucasville. It marks the Lady Pointers first trip to the district since 2001 when Layne was the pitcher.

The only runs of the game came in the fourth inning.

With one out Emilee Button reached on an error when pitcher Courtney Clever couldn’t field her ground ball. Button stole second base and went to third when Ashley Smith beat out an infield hit with two outs.

Miller then clutched u with a double to the fence in center to score both runners.

Layne noted that the four hits were by seniors and both runs were scored by seniors.

“I can’t say enough about our seniors. They are not ready to stop playing yet. When it comes time to the tournament, nobody wants to win like the seniors. They really played with a lot of heart tonight,” said Layne.
