ASHLAND, Ky. — Bruce J. Dixon Jr., 77, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born July 6, 1932 in Greenup County, a son of the late Bruce J. Sr. and Miranda Dixon. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was captain of the James L. Flannery Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard in Ironton, Ohio. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Elwood Stringer Post 325 in Flatwoods and was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Ironton. He was retired from AK Steel where he worked at the Hotstrip Mill.
Survivors include his wife of almost 33 years, Janet Brillhart Dixon, four sons, Bruce Wayne (Donna) Dixon of Grayson, Barney Snodie of Flatwoods, Mark (Tami) Spurlock of Ashland, and Gary (Brenda) Spurlock of Worthington; three daughters, Debra Sanders of Flatwoods, Ginia Forrester of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Janice Spurlock of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Jason, Angela, Jessica, Justin, Robin, derrick, Devan, Jacob, Luke, and Gavin; 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Makayla, Chloe, Brayden, Mylee, Tyson, Jayden, Landon, Ethan and Natasha and a brother, David Dixon of Albuquerque, N.M.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Revs. Jason Bailey and Lloyd Bailey officiating. A private commital service will be at a later date at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bruce Dixon Memorial Fund at Community Trust Bank, 1544 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Ky. 41101.
