Volunteers needed for June 19 River Sweep

Volunteers are needed for River Sweep 2010, scheduled for Saturday, June 19 along the shoreline of the Ohio River from Pennsylvania to Illinois.

The River Sweep encompasses the Ohio, Allegheny, Monongahela, Beaver, Kanawha, Tennessee and Kentucky rivers and other tributaries.

“This is the 21th year for the Ohio River Sweep,” said Jeanne Ison, Project Director in all six states. “River Sweep is a riverbank cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River and beyond. More than 3,000 miles of shoreline will be combed for trash and debris. This is the largest environmental event of its kind and encompasses six states,” she continued

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), in partnership with various industries throughout the Ohio River Valley, sponsors the Ohio River Sweep.
