Riverfront blues festival considered in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — The blues may be playing at a riverfront festival in Ashland later this year.

Ashland Main Street officials think they can put together the festival by September.

The Ashland Daily Independent reports that the organizers want to sell alcohol at the festival.

Main Street director Danny Craig pitched the idea to city commissioners recently, and he got permission to draft a proposal for them to consider at their next meeting.

Craig says the festival would have a six-figure payroll, and organizers have contacted major blues acts. He estimates the festival would draw 15,000 to 20,000 fans from up to 300 miles away.
