Izaak Walton League to honor vets with fishing day

WATERLOO — The Izaak Walton League of America, Lawrence County Chapter, will sponsor a first-ever U.S.A. Veterans Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5 at the Izaak Walton lake on Texas Hollow Road (Township Road 140) off Etna-Waterloo Road.

The activities will include free fishing and lunch served at noon. According to a prepared statement, the day is set aside to honor both military veterans and active duty personnel.

Concert set for Memorial Day

ASHLAND, Ky. — Ashland’s Central Park will feature four musical acts at the bandstand this Memorial Day.

The Joe Freeman Band, Stephen Salyers, Bronson Bush and Katie Owens will be singing beginning at 5 p.m. Monday.

The entertainment is sponsored by the City of Ashland and the Recreation Department.

A patriotic program will be included featuring a salute to all veterans, fallen and living.

Free ice cream and door prizes will be given out and there will be a visit from Peanuts the clown. The concession stand will also be open.

ACTC college camp starts June 14

ASHLAND, Ky. — College Camp 2010 at Ashland Community and Technical College offers classes ranging from computer tools to movie making to health and fitness.

The afternoon classes for ages 6 to 13 provide hands-on learning in exciting subjects not offered during the regular school year.

Students may take from one to four of the one-hour classes, and each class is $35. There is a $20 discount for students who take four classes.

Camp will be held June 14 to 25. Each class has an enrollment limit to maximize learning opportunities, and registration is on a first come basis.
