Regardless of what prompted their disagreement, several people involved in an altercation Sunday at the American Legion Post 590 at 720 Quincy St., will likely face charges because of the incident.

Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said Tuesday he will ask the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office to review and consider filing charges on at least five individuals, four males and a female.

“Three of the people are Lexington, Ky., residents, the other two are from South Point and Greenup, Ky.,” Carey said. “The offense types are aggravated rioting, assault, vandalism, and resisting arrest.”

Carey declined to release the names of the people until formal charges are filed. He said other people may be charged as well.

Just after midnight Sunday, officers were called to the Quincy Street organization over a fight that had gotten out of hand. Carey said at least six people were taken to area hospitals with injuries.

One officer was also injured in the fight.

Carey said he will discuss a motive for the incident after the prosecutor’s office reviews the information about it.
