Rumpke announces Memorial Day collection schedule

There will be no Rumpke waste removal and recycling collection on Memorial Day.

Service will be delayed one day during the week of the holiday. Monday’s collection will move to Tuesday, Tuesday’s collection will move to Wednesday, Wednesday’s will move to Thursday, Thursday’s will move to Friday and Friday’s will move to Saturday.

Regular collection will resume the week of June 7.

The following counties will be affected:

In Ohio: Lawrence, Scioto

In Kentucky: Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, Lawrence

In West Virginia: Cabell, Wayne

Bands to battle it out in July

ROME TOWNSHIP — The 2010 Lawrence County Fair will hold its first Battle of the Bands competition on July 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Each band will perform a 20-minute set. An applause meter will be used to judge the crowd favorite.

Second place will win $500. First prize will win $1,000 and will be the opening act for Jamey Johnson on Thursday, July 15.

Last Chantz Band

Gus Macker registration extended

Online registration for the Ironton Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament has been extended to Monday.

ACTC College Camp registration open

ASHLAND, Ky. — Registration for College Camp 2010 at the Ashland Community Technical College has begun.  Teachers met for orientation and a tour of the campus on May 17. 

Ironton resident Sylvia Arthur will be teaching an environmental studies class for students ages 8-11 called “Earth, Fire, Water and Air!” “This is my first time with the College Camp.  I am amazed at the quantity and creativity of the classes being offered this year,” Arthur said.  Everyone seems very excited to be participating.  I just know the students are going to have a great time.” 

College Camp 2010 is from June 14 – 25, 12:30 pm to 4:30 p.m.  It is for ages 6 -13.  More than 30 classes are being offered.

The cost is $35 per class.  Students may take up to four classes.  There is a $20 discount with four classes per child.  There are also a limited number of scholarships available.
