A South Point couple arrested earlier this year for a marijuana growing operation pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Shannon Lynn Preston, 32, and Steven C. Preston, 58, both of 595 County Road 15, South Point, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana. Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced each of them to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation.

Shannon Preston was fined $2,500 and Steven Preston was fined $7,500. Bowling also suspended their driver’s licenses for six months.

The Prestons were arrested in February after police busted their indoor pot growing operation.

The operation included an irrigation system and an automatic timer as well as a drying device and marijuana magazines.

Joshua Mathews, 27, of Charleston, W.Va., pleaded guilty to assault on a peace officer and failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer.

Bowling sentenced him to a total of three years in prison.

Diana Waddell, 58, of 1625 S. Fourth St., was sentenced to five years in prison for her earlier guilty plea to a drug charge.

Judge Charles Cooper also ordered her to pay a $5,000 fine and suspended her driver’s license for two years.

Roger Wallace, 47, of 409 Buckhorn St., pleaded guilty to one count of failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer and to a probation violation.

Wallace was on probation for an earlier theft conviction but was arrested on new charges in Boyd County, Ky., and then was arrested on the new fleeing and eluding charge.

Bowling sentenced him to a year in prison.
