COLUMBUS — Not the finish one might want, but there’s nothing wrong with the performance.

While some area track standouts didn’t place in the Division II or III state track meet Friday at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, they represented themselves well.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ senior discus thrower Lorna Ceaser finished 10th in the Div. III meet and didn’t make the finals, but her first throw had a distance of 119-9 and broke the school record held by Kathy Bush.

“That was the best way to get a mark,” said Ceaser after her toss.

Coal Grove’s Chelsea Delong finished 14th with a throw of 108-4. Joh ‘Vonnie Mosley of McDonald won the discus with a toss of 151-4.

In the boys’ Div. II meet, Chesapeake Panthers’ senior Peter Hintz jumped a personal-best 20-11.5 and placed 10th.

Corry Sprouse of LaGrange Keystone won the event with a leap of 22-9.

In the Div. II girls’ meet, South Point’s Kayla Fletcher posted a 13.2 seconds time in the 100-meter dash preliminaries but did not make the finals. She also long jumped on Saturday and had a 15-6.25 as her best jump.

Fairland’s Chad Gibson ran a 2:02.93 time as he competed in the 800-meter run Saturday that was won by Sean Jones of Gnadenhutten at 1:52.03.

Also on Saturday, Fairland’s Megan Brooks cleared 10-6 and finished 10th in the pole vault. Amanda-Clearcreek’s Kori Tatman won with a meet record 12-6 vault.

In the boys’ Div. III preliminaries, the Hornets’ 4×100-meter relay team of Alex Bare, Jake Brown, Sebastian Woods and Oakie Haynes posted a 44.7 time.

Haynes — who qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash with the fifth best time — also ran in the 200 meters and posted a 22.91 time to finish 11th.
