Everyone’s invited to join a summer reading club at Briggs Lawrence County Public Library. Clubs are open to children, teens and adults. The first in a series of free “Going Green” programs will be offered at the Main Library in Ironton starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday. In Ecology 101, Sylvia Arthur will talk about ecosystems, how we fit in and what stewardship of the Earth means. Everyone is invited to attend.

Everyone interested in gardening is invited to two free programs this week. Introductory Herb Gardening will be offered at the South Point library at 5 p.m. Monday. Learn how to identify, grow and harvest herbs from local garden club members. For information call (740) 377-2288.

On Friday, learn about Container Gardening at the Proctorville Library starting at 10:30 a.m. Learn the best soils to use, what plants grows best in containers and more. The first 12 participants will receive a small pot, soil and plant. This program is cosponsored by the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library, Huntington Community Gardens and the Cabell County Master Gardeners Association. Everyone’s invited to join a Briggs Library book discussion group. This week, the Ironton evening group will talk about “Cabinet of Curiosities” by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Everyone interested in learning to crochet as well as those already experienced at the craft is invited to the Crochet Club at the Southern Branch Library in South Point at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Beginners should bring a “G” or “H” hook and yarn. Experienced crafters may bring a current project. For information call (740) 377-2288.

The Briggs Library Teen Department is making waves this summer with a “Beach Party” at the Northern Branch Library at Symmes Valley at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. All the Big Kahunas and Beach Bunnies in grades 6 through 12 are invited to try Wii Surfing and make an island welcome craft. Children of all ages can sign up for the Children’s Summer Reading Club. Younger children can have books read to them. Members receive weekly prizes for meeting their reading goals. This year’s theme is “Make a Splash! Read!”

The Summer Reading Club also offers weekly programs for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school children that include storytelling, crafts, games, music, special guests and fun with friends. The schedule is below:

The Northern Branch Library in the Symmes Valley Multilevel School is now operating on summer hours. The branch will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Crochet and Knitting Club at the Eastern Branch Library in Proctorville meets weekly at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. Sheila Brumfield will provide basic instruction and help with projects for beginning through intermediate level crafters. Experienced crafters are also invited to bring their projects.
