Now that a former Dawson-Bryant Schools employee has dropped a lawsuit against the district’s leadership, the focus must stay on the most important factor: Moving the district forward.

The recent agreement between the district and former elementary principal and administrator has the chance to put an end to any division that remains.

As with most school districts, there is a division on the board and in the community. Some will try to deny it or downplay the severity.

The reality is that it is there. And it could be significant.

The lawsuit seemed to be the culmination of recent years where the division began to show. Most of the controversy centered on the decision to hire superintendent Dennis DeCamp from outside the district and then to renew his contract.

This latest salvo included nasty allegations — some of which were discounted — made by both sides.

The general public and the average Coal Grove taxpayer may not ever know which side was “right.”

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter.

What does matter is that all these differences are put aside — by school board members, by employees and by citizens. These decisions have been made by the individuals voters designated as their leaders.

Everyone must work to get on the same page so that nothing takes away from the students hitting the books.
