Ashland man sentenced for theft

ASHLAND, Ky. — An Ashland, Ky. man pleaded guilty to one count of theft in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday. Dustin Weiher, 27, of 1707 Harlan Street in Ashland, was sentenced to four years of community controlled sanctions and ordered to complete the STAR program.

Judge Scott Bowling also ordered Weiher to pay restitution for the theft.

OLBH to offer screenings at Summer Motion

RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH), in conjunction with Summer Motion, will offer a health fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. in Ashland’s Central Park.

Health screenings will include cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar evaluations, body fat analysis and lung function testing. Information concerning hospital services will be provided both days and OLBH will be offering fun activities for youth provided by Bellefonte Pediatrics and Bellefonte Pediatric Rehabilitation.

The OLBH Green Team will be at Summer Motion and will take donations of medical supplies in good condition. These supplies will be donated to Caring Partners International to be distributed to countries in need all over the world.

Additionally, the OLBH Green Team is asking that visitors to the OLBH tent at Summer Motion bring their used cell phones to donate. OLBH partners with the recycling company, Recellular, to collect old cell phones. With each phone that is recycled, Recellular provides one hour of talk time for a US soldier.

Friends’ Book Sale is July 3

ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library Friends’ annual summer book sale is on Saturday, July 3, at the library’s Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes hundreds of new or gently used books – everything from non-fiction to the latest bestselling fiction to music and movies. There is also a large selection of children’s materials. Most items are $1 or less.

Weather permitting, the sale will take place in the Library Commons area just adjacent to the library’s Reading Garden.

This is one of two big book sales BCPL Friends holds each year. The other is in December. The group uses the proceeds to support library programs and services.

BCPL Friends are always looking for new members. An individual membership costs only $10. Membership applications are available at any of the three branches or online at www.thebookplace.org.
