Paving project begins on Ironton Ranger District

Pedro — An American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funded paving project is underway.

The parking lot of the Ironton District Office of the Wayne National Forest will be closed Thursday due to repaving.

Parking lots in the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area and the Hanging Rock Trailhead will also have temporary closures this week.

Weather permitting paving should be completed by Friday.

Carey gains key endorsements

COLUMBUS — State Sen. John Carey who is a candidate for the 87th House District has gained endorsements from Ohio Right to Life and the Ohio Restaurant Association.

Carey has a 100 percent voting record on right to life issues. “I believe the sanctity of human life is important and is a core value,” Carey said. The Ohio Restaurant Association(ORA) representative, Richard Mason, wrote that the ORA was endorsing Carey because he has a record of supporting jobs and economic development and is approachable to listen how legislation affects small business.

The Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA) has recognized Carey for his work on keeping and bringing jobs to Ohio. He is known for his behind the scenes work in moving projects forward and advocating for policies that help foster jobs.

Specifically, in Lawrence County, Carey over the years has sponsored legislation that became enacted into law that helped the development of the Point Industrial Park and the funding for spec buildings at the park.

Carey is seeking to be elected to the 87th Ohio House seat being vacated by Rep. Clyde Evans.

Harriet Scragg of Rome Township is the Lawrence County Chairman for Citizens for Carey.

Johnson endorsed by Ohio Restaurant Association

Portsmouth — Terry Johnson, candidate for the 89th Ohio House District, announced that he has received the endorsement of the Ohio Restaurant Association.

The ORA Board of Directors voted to endorse Johnson at their June 13 meeting. The board endorsed candidates whom they believe support public policies that will allow the restaurant industry to grow and prosper.

“I am honored to receive the support of the Ohio Restaurant Association. More than half of a million people are employed by restaurants in Ohio, so this is a very important industry,” Johnson said.

While other candidates talk about creating jobs, Johnson believes he is receiving support from small business owners and organizations like the ORA because he is the only candidate with the experience and knowledge.
