KENOVA, W.Va. — A production of “Fruit in its Season” starring young Hollywood actor Jasson Cring come to Kenova this weekend.

Jasson’s father, Jonathan Richard Cring, wrote the play.

“My dad sent me the script,” Jasson said. “I fell in love with it.”

The play is based on the first three chapters of the Book of Psalms.

Jasson said, “It’s not overtly religious. It’s a human story.”

Jasson plays David Meriwether, a landowner who is pressured to sell his farm to make room for a new mall.

The set for the play uses minimal props and no amplification of any kind.

“The intimacy is extrodinary,” said Jasson.

The 23-year-old actor has been in 11 movies and numerous TV shows such as NCIS LA, CSI NY, Bones and The Mentalist.

He left Hollywood to do this production with his father for a personal reason.

“Living in L.A., I love it,” he said.” But most of the time you’re just going through the motions. I want to do something that made people think.”

The play will be at the Kenova United Methodist Church on Saturday at 7 p.m. for one show only. Admission is free.

The cast and crew will travel all over the South this summer. In the fall they will continue on with a second play in the David Meriwether series, “Having Your Say.”
