Rallda Jean Waddell Markel, 73, of Ironton passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Charleston, W.Va. native was born Oct. 31, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Harold Kingsley Waddell and Ruth A. Stone Waddell Nunley.
Jeanie was a graduate of Ashland Senior High School. She was a primary school teacher and a Sunday school teacher and loved to sing in the choir. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Tampa, Fla., The Presidential Club for Avon and The Daughters of America. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by stepfather; Carrie E. Nunley;
son-in-law, Donnie Bryant; granddaughter, Cherishette Markel; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Rankin and Thomas Kaylor.
Jeanie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry V. Markel, whom she married Aug. 12, 1955; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Jean Markel Brown and Herb of Ironton;
daughter and companion, Carolyn “Suzy” Markel Bryant and Danny Dickess of Ironton;
daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ann Markel Jones and Ray of Pedro; daughter and son-in-law, Sally Ruth Markel Inglis and Tom of St. Petersburg, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, David Kingsley Markel and Karen of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Harry “Andy” Anderson Markel and Tammy of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Brenda Rankin of Catlettsburg, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol Proffitt and Charlie of Flatwoods, Ky.;
sister, Patty Kaylor of Columbus; special cousin, Bob Wilds of Charleston; grandchildren,

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1001 Kenwood Drive, Russell, Ky., with Bishop Bryan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be; Tyler Markel, Andy Markel,  David Markel, Ray Jones II, James Inglis, Matthew Jones, Cody Bryant and Dakota Bryant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Jones, Danny Dickess, Tom Inglis and Herb Brown. Her granddaughters will serve as flower carriers.
